Our Secret Getaways

Welcome aboard luxury yacht, Freedom

The sensational Moody 54 Deck Saloon is turning heads around the world!  She’s the first yacht to really offer the luxury of “one level living” – where everyone is connected together across the living spaces: the cockpit, lounge and kitchen are all on one sociable level!  Plus all-round windows to give a panoramic vista in all directions. Breathtaking!

This new, 2022 yacht has all the luxuries of modern sailing and along with friendly skipper, gives a happy introduction to sailing the Mediterranean.

From 2023 she sails in Greece. Her home port is Gouvia on lovely Corfu and explorations take her to Kephalonia, Lefkada, Ithaca, Kostas and beyond.  What a brilliant and beautiful sailing ground this is.

A week or two of Ionian adventure

Join when you can, leave when you must.  You are sailing with Laurence and Morag Young, a qualified skipper and a great hostess. They know Greek waters well, and love the Ionian.  What you do and where you go is your decision, but the Youngs have favourite places and secret haunts to share, if you want.

A week is €15,000 and includes everything on board.  Breakfast and lunch are often enjoyed and included on Freedom – for most evening meals we will venture ashore (costs on land are met individually).

Yacht Freedom accommodates five people in addition to the Youngs, making her ideal for one or two couples. There are two spacious double cabins (one en-suite) and one single cabin.

The Freedom experience is suitable for those who simply want to enjoy sailing the Ionian in comfort; for those who want to learn to sail; or for those wishing to experience a different sort of yacht, and learn more.

We will sail to corfu scaled

The island of Corfu comes into view as we sail north from Paxos.

Where shall we go?

You are the Captain! You decide.

The skipper is there to help and assist – this is your adventure and you can set the pace and the itinerary.

We’ve lots of experience and ideas and are happy to share them if you’d like.  Having followed tips and advice ourselves, we’ve found some memorable taverna and restaurants, and would love to share the secrets!

We’ve taken video from some of the loveliest places around the Ionian – find them here.

Possible itineraries for one or two weeks

Map Week1

From our base at Gouvia Marina, Corfu we explore the lovely northern Ionian.  Isolated bays for a swim at lunchtime, gorgeous harbours at night.

Corfu airport is only 15 minutes from the marina! Let’s meet up and get happily settled aboard Yacht Freedom.

There are so many wonders to discover aboard.  It may be the engine room and fresh water maker that will take your interest, or the bars and fridges.  Perhaps the music library, hidden screen and video options!

Whatever, we will surely enjoy a glass of wine in the evening sun, before wandering off to Gouvia Village for dinner?

Our introductory first sail is northwards up the green, verdant coastline of the north east of Corfu, to a berth in Kassiopi harbour. This is such a pretty place!  Let’s enjoy a cold beer ashore, then enjoy some special food at a special restaurant we know . . .

Or, we might divert into Agni Bay for a lunchtime swim on the way north- and then decide to stop there for the night!  It is a magical and alluring bay.

We look forward to some wonderful sailing in the staights of Corfu and will find a blue bay for a lunch stop.  Then onwards and into Pagania Bay to enjoy the tranquility and calm of this magical and remote, romantic spot.  We will watch cranes gliding across the bay as we enjoy sunset and wine on deck, before a dinner aboard.

We head to renowned Paxos island with the plan to overnight in wonderful Lakka Bay.  What is it that’s so magical about this place?  The blue, blue waters or the picturesue setting of this perfect anchorage? We will all want to swim, and then there are some great choices for dinner in the village.

We could spend days idling around brilliant Paxos island – it’s such a special and picturesque place.  But let’s spend one more night here, with the plan to take a line ashore in Mongonissi  Bay. We’ll book us into one of our favourite Greek taverna for dinner (Carnayo Gold – it’s actually an Italian cafe!), having spent some idle hours earlier in the day exporing the waterfront and back lanes of incredible Gaios

Another special day – combining leisurely sail with not too long a passage.  We will head east to explore Syvota on the mainland. We can go into the small harbour beside the small town, or anchor in a bay.

Our last day will be as magical as all the others!  Heading north, our aim for tonight is to anchor off Corfu Old Town, under the old fort.  With a final, really special dinner at the renowned restaurant “Venetian Well”.

During the day, there are loads of options for quiet bays and lovely swims.  What about Notos Bay, on the south east coast of Corfu?

Arrive and relax onboard.  Discover the amazing Moody54 Deck Saloon.

A gentle sail today as we get our sea legs, and gain familiarity with our new home.  Tonight a romantic, remote bay on the mainland.

Southwards via lunch in an isolated and stunning bay, with swim in the warm blue waters and time to relax.  Then this afternoon, we sail into the stunning bay of Lakka. Ashore this evening for a cold beer and a memorable meal.

By getting to Gaios early, we should get alongside on the town quay.  This is one of the most picturesque villages of the mediterannean – we adore it!

An early start for an ambitious day!  Hoping for a great sail south, to make passage down the Lefkas canal, past the old town of Lefkas and on to Palairos.  This sleepy mainland town is another favourite, and we want to take you to the New Mill Tavern tonight – its such an unusual and memorable dining experience!

DAY  6

Lots of options for the day, and let’s see what the wind is doing.  We’ll certainly get some good swimming in at our lunch stop, and may head for Spartakhori for the night.

We’d suggest that the day starts with breakfast way up in the hilltop village of Spartakhori – it’s such a breathtaking spot. We’ll follow that with a brilliant sail and then, if weather permits, an overnight at Port Assos on Kephalonia. This is an iydllic spot, and a chance for an evening walk up to the ancient fort, perched around the cliffs high above the bay.

With a visit to famous Fiskardo for lunch there will be time to idle around the harbour and browse the colourful shops.  After lunch, we’ll sail down the beautiful channel between Ithaca and Fiskado, to end the day in the bustling port of Sami.

With wind allowing, we are going to have a good sail this morning and arrive in a remote bay for a well earned lunch. After a plunge, we set sail again and arrive into stunning Vathi bay by late afternoon.  This marvellous, protected spot has options to anchor, go onto the town quay or take a line ashore somewhere.  Whatever we decide, there’s an evening to enjoy exploring the old town.

Another option for the day might be to head East to the mainland town of Astakos. An interesting spot, with many a good side-option, too!

DAY 10

Ahhh – to our favourite spot tonight.  Lovely Kastos island, and Katos bay for dinner ashore.  Breakfast up at the old windmill with its astonishing views out towards the Peloponnese – this may be the highpoint of the whole adventure!

DAY 11

Of all the lovely harbours in the Ionian, another wonderful spot is Kioni and we’d like to share it with you tonight.  It’s a short passage, so we have the chance to take the wind where she may blow, and enjoy a good sail in the Gulf of Molos.

DAY 12

Meganisi Island has so many lovely anchorages it’s difficulat to know which to choose.  We will explore a number of them, and will be sure to find one you adore.  This is planned as a lazy day of swims, fishing and fun.

DAY 13

An early start for a full day!  We will make the Lefkas Canal before lunch and fly northwards to Paxos island under full sail!  Into Mongonissi bay in time for dinner at Carnayo Gold Bistro – incredible Italian cuisine that raises this to a truly favourite spot.

An option on Paxos is the blue, blue waters of Lakka Bay – it’s certainly an enchanting spot.

Day 14

Gastronomy is on our minds again as we head for Corfu Old Town tonight. The last meal may be the best – we’re off to The Ventian Well Restaurant, hidden among the high, narrow backstreets of the Old Town.

Before we drop anchor in the bay underneath Corfu Castle, it’s going to be a wonderful day of sailing, relaxing and a swim with lunch.

Our adventures in 2022 . . .

Yacht Freedom was delivered from Germany to the Hamble in May 2022.  Then she had her final fit-out in the Inspiration Yachting yard on the Hamble and in June had her sea trials.

Morag, Laurence and friends then took her on a wonderful, delivery passage to Corfu.  Via France, Spain, Portugal and Italy. Discovering magic in every port along the way.

A special thanks to Don and Anne who had the excitement of the final passage, from Ibiza to Gouvia.

The journey is shown on the google map below.
